HARLEM AMBASSADORS ANNOUNCE APRIL 2004 TOUR
Team to bring Show Basketball Kicks to Route 66
The Harlem Ambassadors Show Basketball Team, in association with Route 66 Magazine, today announced plans for its first-ever "Route 66 Show Basketball Kicks Tour" to take place in April 2004.
"We have toured in all of the States and many of the communities along Historic 66," said Harlem Ambassadors president Dale Moss. "Each April we head to California, so this season we decided to follow the routing so many others used in motoring west," Moss added. "We are also extremely excited about partnering with Route 66 Magazine which is a tremendous resource about the past, present, and future of Route 66," he said.
It's Not Your Grandfather's Basketball Show, is the slogan for the Ambassadors. "It means we offer a younger, fresher, livelier basketball show," explained Moss. The Harlem Ambassadors Basketball Show features high-flying slam dunks, dazzling ball-handling, and comedy routines led by Ladè Majic, Queen of Show Basketball. The only woman coach/player of an all men's professional team, Ladè Majic has played more show basketball games than any woman in history. She competes against opposing men players on a nightly basis and represents a great positive role model for young girls.
The Harlem Ambassadors perform fundraising events for not-for-profit community and youth organizations including Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, Jaycees, Boys and Girls Clubs, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and Habitat for Humanity. The team is encouraging groups along Historic 66 to present the family-oriented Harlem Ambassadors show in their communities during this tour.
In the team's five years of existence, the Harlem Ambassadors have already performed in many locations on Historic 66. Those stops have included Chicago and Lincoln, Illinois; Kirkwood, Rolla, and Joplin, Missouri; Stroud and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Amarillo, Texas; Bernalillo and Gallup, New Mexico; Winona and Kingman, Arizona; and Barstow and Los Angeles, California.
Unlike some other basketball shows, the Harlem Ambassadors do not travel with a pre-selected opponent or present a choreographed show. "We like to be challenged by the best local players," said Ladè Majic, "There are always a few tough players in any place we go." Dealing with opposition who do not know exactly what will happen next creates an Ambassadors show that is loaded with spontaneous improvisation humor.
