HARLEM “CANADIAN” AMBASSADORS

ANNOUNCE COAST-TO-COAST TOUR

For the past ten seasons, the Harlem Ambassadors have toured North America including numerous trips into Canada for performances. During that time, the team has performed to packed audiences in seven provinces from Nova Scotia to B.C. and has played in all three territories during trips to Canada’s north. Now, as basketball continues to surge in popularity in Canada, the team is announcing its first coast-to-coast tour across Canada with a team of Canadian players.

Known for a family-oriented show basketball presentation that includes high-flying slam dunks, ball handling artistry, and hilarious comedy routines, the Harlem Ambassadors perform fundraising events for community, youth, and social service organizations. During previous tours of Canada, the team has also performed special events for school and youth basketball organizations. Unique among basketball shows, the Harlem Ambassadors feature a female “show player” leading a team of male professional players. In show basketball parlance, the “show player” is the players who initiates the comedy routines and is generally the mischief-maker causing problems for the referee and the opposing team.

To form the nucleus of the Harlem “Canadian” Ambassadors, the team has signed two Canadian players who are presently training and performing with one of the team’s two touring units during the 2007-08 U.S. tour which tipped off on September 15, 2007 and includes over 200 performances. The Canadian tour will begin on April 3, 2008 in British Columbia and will tour west-to-east concluding in the Maritime provinces.

LaToya Chalmers, from Toronto, Ontario and an NCAA Division 1 star at New York’s Fordham University, is currently training on the Ambassadors’ “Stars and Stripes” touring unit in preparation for the Canadian tour. C.J. Anderson, Jr., an acrobatic dunk contest champion from Ottawa, Ontario is presently touring with the Ambassadors’ “Red, White, and Blue” touring unit.

“We are thrilled with the quality of these players we have secured for the nucleus of the Canadian Ambassadors team,” said president Dale Moss, adding that “more importantly these are quality people who will represent our message that encourages youth to get a good education and avoid substances.”

“In addition to these three players, the Harlem Ambassadors will continue to add and develop Canadian players throughout the current season with the goal of having the team that will be touring Canada to be all Canadian. The team is currently booking events offering the Ambassadors’ show fundraising package to not-for-profit organizations. The Harlem Ambassadors work extensively with Habitat for Humanity, Boys and Girls Clubs, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Rotary and Lions Clubs, Red Cross, and many other groups.

The team has also been a major provider of morale shows for Canadian Defence Forces and their families having previously performed at bases in Comox, B.C. (twice); Wainwright, Alberta (twice); Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Borden, Ontario (twice); Petawawa, Ontario (twice); Trenton, Ontario; Gagetown, New Brunswick (twice); and Greenwood, Nova Scotia. Comox, Moose Jaw, Borden, Petawawa, and Kingston are on the schedule for the 2008 tour and the Canadian Ambassadors hope to include several other CF bases during the coast-to-coast tour.
